When I was invited to The Assembly Rooms and Bonbar showcase event the first thing I thought was YES! I am sad to say I have only ever been to Bonbar once and had only just took a sip of my first drink when the babysitter called to say my little boy was poorly so I had to make a quick exit. I also haven't been to The Assembly rooms since my school prom in 2002...so it was time to return. I have never taken the hubby to an event before either because we find it so hard to get a sitter but the hubby has wanted to find out more about this blogging malarkey for a while. So when I was allowed a guest I begged Grandma to come over and watch the boys, a bribery bag of doughnuts and we were out the door.
Little pre game snack to warm up...
Its Wednesday and I have 2 children....Its Wednesday and I have 2 children.....
The invite looked special and the evening lived up to it. After entering the stunning Georgian building which dating back to 1776 makes it one of the North East's oldest, we were lead up the fantastic sweeping staircase to a champagne reception and the party already in full swing. Wine tasting, Cheese tasting, Canapés, Magic and a photo booth...what more could you ask for?! Me and the hubby had a little wander round the stunning Conference and Banqueting suites named things like Wedgwood and Regency...it just begs for a wedding doesn't it. We bumped into some of my favourite bloggy people and they had all also brought their partners for a night of fun, so great mind think a like and all that. We were then ushered into the Chandelier Suite for a speech from Managing Director Antony Michaelides whose family have owned the building for three decades.
"Since my father and uncle acquired the venue back in 1974 and I took the reins over two decades ago it has always been our ethos to pay meticulous attention to detail in the maintenance of the building, ensuring any restoration work reflects the venue’s former glory."
He went on to talk about the different aspects of The Assembly Rooms and Partner ship with Bonbar. I had no idea about all the fab things you can do from cocktail making to my personal favourite Afternoon tea or that they do Sunday Lunch. All I could think was you could have your whole wedding here from an amazing Hen Doo or Stag Doo in Bonbar and the exclusive 467 Club then have your Wedding in one the of gorgeous Suites upstairs. After the speech, we were taken Downstairs to Bonbar where the most incredible Cocktails were being showcased and sampled. Now when I say samples this was no Costco plastic cup affair, oh no. There was a table set up for each individual cocktail telling the story behind it, using props from Tea pots to Train sets, it really was something special. My favourite was "The Locomotive" apart from the fact rum is my poison it also sparked some Geordie pride using a reduction of Newcastle Brown Ale.
Just too cool for school here.
After 2 glasses of champagne, several wine tasting, 6 different cocktails we had truly been spoilt but it was definitely time for some carbs and after hitting the new Byron Burger we headed home to let Grandma go! Thanks for having us The Assembly Rooms and Bonbar, when I asked the husband what he thought of his first blogger night his response was "When is the next one?" so will definitely return.
